Curcuma (Curcuma Longa) is a plant with origins in India and Asia. As a spice, turmeric gives curries their typical colour and flavour.
Since the root of Curcuma Longa has a distinctive orange-yellow colour, turmeric is also sometimes called yellow root.
Is turmeric powder healthy?
Turmeric powder is very healthy, turmeric is a classic in Ayurvedic medicine for a reason. It is said to support all three doshas (vita, pitta and kapha).
The benefits of turmeric are due to its curcuminoids, of which curcumin is the best-known example. Among other things, curcumin is said to help support the joints and digestion.
Surprisingly, turmeric is also a good source of iron, with effects on resistance as a result. Finally, turmeric powder contains small amounts of potassium and calcium.
How to use turmeric powder?
To use, add 7 g of turmeric powder to 300 ml of juice, rice or oat drink.
Try a scoop of turmeric powder in a dressing, sauce or pasta too. It can replace curry powder from the supermarket perfectly.
Using turmeric along with healthy fats like olive oil can also improve absorption.
