Heel wat producten in het gamma van Purasana hebben een hoge ORAC-waarde. ORAC staat voor Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity. Maar wat wil dit nu exact zeggen?
The ORAC value indicates how many antioxidants A product contains. The higher the value, the more antioxidants and healthier the product. Antioxidants protect the body against harmful external influences. These intruders are called free radicals.
Free radicals are aggressive substances that disrupt the functioning of healthy cells. They cause damage that leads to
disease-and-aging. Fortunately, there is a solution! Antioxidants are indeed capable of fighting against these substances, limiting damage, and repairing the affected cells.
The Fruit&Veggie range scores the highest. The
fruit-and-veggie-superfood en Protein Mix have an ORAC value of 23700 H-ORAC units per serving of 12g. The
Fruit&Veggie Capsules have an ORAC value of 3000 H-ORAC units per serving of 2 capsules.
Fruit&Veggie owes this high score to the amount of brightly colored ingredients. Think of beetroot, broccoli, spinach, cranberry, blueberry, tomato, strawberry, blackcurrant…
Matcha tea helps to combat free radicals. The ORAC value of the Purasana Premium Matcha is 2400 H-ORAC units per serving of 1 g. Purasana Classic Matcha has even an ORAC value of 3100 H-ORAC units per serving of 1 g.
Even the superfoods are doing well. The
Purasana Aronia Berries Powder has an ORAC value of 1530 H-ORAC units per serving of 5 g. For the
Purasana Acai Berries Powder is that 1505 H-ORAC units.
Especially foods with a bright color (= with pigment) contain a lot of antioxidants. Examples include beets, tomatoes, strawberries, red and black berries…
The aforementioned superfoods are a good example of that! But the best example is of course the Rode Bietenpoeder with its bright red color.
The ORAC test measures the amount of antioxidants, specifically the absorption capacity of free radicals, in a product. The stronger the absorption capacity, the higher the ORAC value.
The product (for example, beet powder), molecules that generate free radicals and oxidation-sensitive molecules are placed together in a test tube. After some time, it is measured how well the product protects the oxidation-sensitive molecules. The smaller the damage, the higher the ORAC value.
In all unprocessed and healthy products, there are antioxidants.. At number 1 are vegetables and fruits. 2.5 servings of vegetables and fruits equals, for example, 1500 ORAC units.
As mentioned earlier, the Fruit&Veggie range from Purasana has a high ORAC value. The Fruit&Veggie superfoods and proteins are two powerful blends of 28 types of vegetables and fruits. One serving is equivalent to 100 g of fresh vegetables and fruits, and thus also corresponds to a high ORAC value.
The Fruit&Veggie capsules are an all-in-one mix of 22 vegetables and fruits. 2 capsules are equivalent to 5 pieces of fresh vegetables and fruits, providing a high antioxidant power. The ideal addition when your immune system is weak.
Finally, herbs, nuts, and berries also score well on the ORAC value. For example, 1 serving of 5 g of Acai powder is equivalent to 1 plate of spinach. If you don't like eating spinach, you know what to do!
